Epinephrine HCl
Indications/Uses
Cardiac stimulant in case of collapse, shock & anesth accidents. Hemostatic in hemorrhages. Prolongs action of infiltration anesth agent. Urticaria.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV Adult Severe anaphylactic shock 0.5 mL of 1:1,000 soln in 10 mL saline. SC Bronchial asthma & bronchospasm 0.3-0.5 mL of 1:1,000 dilution. Childn 10 mcg/kg body wt or 300 mcg/m2 body surface up to 500 mcg/dose, repeated as necessary up to 6 times a day.
Contraindications
Cardiac arrhythmia, tachycardia >140 bpm, severe HTN, narrow-angle glaucoma, anesth w/ halogenated hydrocarbon of cyclopropane, w/ local anesth of finger or toe, woman in labor, cardiac dilation & coronary insufficiency.
Special Precautions
CV disease, HTN, diabetes, hyperthyroidism & psychoneuros. Allergy to Na metabisulfite. Pregnancy. Elderly.
Drug Interactions
Diphenhydramine, d-chlorpheniramine & other antihistamines.
